The Human Rights Documentation Workshop was successfully hosted by AFRIEL on 22nd May 2016 in Vavuniya. The purpose of this workshop mainly is to enhance grassroots volunteers’ capacity on documenting human rights issues.
The workshop was a follow-up training for the AFRIEL Citizen Watchers, a grassroots volunteer network for facilitating solutions to the LLRC-related issues in the Northern Province. 45 Citizen Watchers from 18 villages participated in the training workshop.
The resource person, Ruki Fernando, gave an in-depth demonstration of the importance of documentation of human rights issues around the participants. Through exercises during the training session, the Citizen Watchers learned practical tips on how to collect information and what are the details needed for documenting. The training participants will apply their new knowledge and skills back to their work with grassroots victims.
A 10-person team will be formed for the documentation advance training.
